Is it Time to Break Up With Your Dentist?

It’s important to be completely comfortable with your dentist. It doesn’t matter how good, or how qualified a dentist is - if you don’t like his or her chairside manner, you’re less likely to follow through with appointments.

Do you remember why you broke up with your last dentist? Was it because he or she made you feel guilty about your oral health habits? Maybe it was a lack of communication and concern for your feelings. Maybe you stopped seeing them because you felt like you were just another patient taking up their valuable time.

It IS All About You

As a patient, you have a right to expect to be treated with respect and sensitivity to your needs and concerns. Millions of people are afraid of dentists, and it doesn’t help one bit to feel like an outsider when it comes to your own dental care.

The fact is that too many people have developed a lifelong fear of dentists because of one – just one – uncaring professional. At Deep River Dentistry, we know that it is our responsibility to make it easy and comfortable for you to achieve optimal oral health and not to lecture you about past poor habits. We don’t want to cast aspersions on anyone, but a dentist who sets out to make you feel guilty deserves the boot.

Trust and Communication

Experience and extensive training on the latest dental procedures and equipment are important, but there are some very critical things that cannot be learned in dental school. Creating a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and building a trusting relationship with you are essential. We can’t think of an easier way to keep you coming back for more.

Effective communication is a priority because sitting in our dental chair and letting us poke around inside your mouth takes a huge amount of trust. This is especially true if you’ve had a bad experience with that other dentist who just didn’t seem to care how you felt.

If It Feels Good, Do It

Remember – you are in the driver’s seat when it comes to choosing a dentist who fits your needs. A good dentist will be happy to prove to you that they’re worthy of managing your precious oral health, not the other way around. Trust your gut, and if you don’t feel like it’s a good fit, move on. There are many great dentists, like Dr. Bray, who make it a priority to put your needs first.

Despite your feelings to the contrary, we believe that visiting the dentist should actually be a pleasant experience. At Deep River Dentistry, we bend over backwards to take the anxiety out of your oral health care. It makes us happy to see you happy, and it’s just good common sense.
