Dental Crowns: An Effective Shortcut for Restored Function, Aesthetics, and Confidence

Well-placed, high-quality dental crowns are a durable solution for damaged or missing teeth. They enhance aesthetics and restore vital functionality.

Feel and Function

Dental crowns are custom-crafted based on a person’s smile and bite, seamlessly restoring form, function, and visual appeal.

Durable Protection

Crowns encase damaged teeth, preventing further decay or fractures while restoring confidence and comfort when eating or speaking.

Reliable Replacement

Atop dental implants, crowns address tooth loss, restoring biting and chewing functionality and preventing adjacent teeth from shifting.

Consistency and Comfort Across Three Crowns

Got my third crown by Dr. Bray and staff. Again, it was as pain free as the other two. Kind, considerate, compassionate, and WONDERFUL! Thanks, Dr. Bray!

Why Patients Choose Dr. Bray for Crowns

Getting a crown placed well matters. A crown that doesn't fit precisely can cause bite problems, gum irritation, and premature failure. Dr. Bray takes careful impressions and reviews every crown from the lab before bonding. This includes checking fit, shade, and bite alignment before anything is permanently placed.

Patients also appreciate that our High Point office is designed to reduce anxiety. Treatment rooms overlook a calming water view, and Dr. Bray's approach is unhurried. For patients with dental anxiety, we offer sedation options so the procedure is completely comfortable.

We've been placing crowns in High Point and the surrounding communities of Deep River, Adams Farm, and Sandy Ridge for over 13 years.

What Is a Dental Crown?

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that fits over the full visible surface of a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring it to its original size, shape, and function. Crowns are one of the most common restorative dental procedures because they can save a tooth that would otherwise need extraction.

Modern porcelain crowns, the type Dr. Bray uses at Deep River, are indistinguishable from natural teeth. The porcelain is shaded to match your surrounding teeth and reflects light the same way natural enamel does, so there are no telltale gray lines or obvious restorations.

Crowns can also be placed on top of dental implants to replace a missing tooth entirely, restoring both the root and the visible crown in a permanent, natural-looking solution.

When Is a Dental Crown Recommended?

Dr. Bray may recommend a crown if you have:

  • A tooth cracked or broken by injury or biting down on something hard
  • Significant tooth decay that's too extensive for a filling to repair
  • A tooth that's been weakened by a root canal and needs structural support
  • Severe discoloration that hasn't responded to whitening treatments
  • A missing tooth that's being replaced with a dental implant

If you're not sure whether you need a crown or a simpler restoration like a filling or veneer, the only way to know is an in-person exam. Dr. Bray will take x-rays, evaluate the extent of damage, and recommend the most conservative solution that still protects the tooth long-term.

What to Expect: Your Dental Crown Appointments

Visit 1 - Tooth Preparation (about 60–90 minutes)

Dr. Bray will numb the area completely before starting. The tooth is gently shaped to create room for the crown, impressions are taken, and a temporary crown is placed to protect the tooth while your permanent crown is being crafted at the dental lab.

Between Visits (approximately 2 weeks)

Your custom crown is fabricated at a dental laboratory using your exact impressions. During this time, avoid chewing hard foods on the temporary crown.

Visit 2: Permanent Crown Placement (about 45 minutes)

Your permanent crown is tried in for fit, color, and bite. Any minor adjustments are made, and once you and Dr. Bray are satisfied, the crown is bonded permanently in place. Most patients leave the same day with full function restored.
